Summer League

Summer League starts up on Monday, July 5th at 6:00 pm at The New Brighton Community Center.

We are expecting lots of new faces, but the coaching staff will be familiar to anyone who has spent any time around our club.  Kraig O'Rourke, Darryl Ostlund and Morgan Dufrane have all been fixtures in our gyms for years.  Time just seems to fly by, especially when it's one season after another and it seems like just yesterday that Darryl and Kraig were coaching Morgan, but she's actually been coaching for several seasons already and we are all anxious to get started up again.

Northern Impact doesn't really have an "off-season" anymore.  We are always here for private lessons and there's a month and a half of Summer League, a couple months of Fall League and six months of the traditional Club Season.  Add in workouts at Acceleration North, maybe some summer camps, and our athletes are playing year-round.

There are clubs in the area that still have teams competing at the National (wrapping up this week,) and those players literally have NO time off.   They'll fly home on the 4th of July, and report to their high school teams for Summer League, or maybe take a few weeks off before resuming training for their Fall or school seasons.  The commitment is incredible.

So, with the US Olympic teams being set, and National Champions at the junior levels being crowned, we head back into the gym on Monday to start teaching the next generation of athletes this great game.   This is really where those great athletes come from.  They start right here in our gyms and make a choice to commit, continue, or not.  That's why we're here.

For true Champions, there really is no "off-season."

What We Do Here

Northern Impact Volleyball Club has changed over the past 10 years.  We have changed names (formerly Moundsview Volleyball Club,) we have changed directors, we have changed our value and mission, and we have grown - A LOT!

There's a reason we have more teams, have expanded our age reach and geographic boundaries, and win more.  It's because we have worked hard and listened to feedback.  We went all in on getting better, took risks and accepted that it wouldn't always be pretty. Just like our players learn through our Train Ugly lessons on growth mindset.

That's how you get better at volleyball, better at running a volleyball club, or learn to do anything.  If you haven't already done so, please take a look at our Mission and Vision and let us know what you think.  It's written in HTML, not stone, so we can make it better, if we want.

We want all of our players and families to commit to making this club the best it can be.  We won't accept mediocrity or lack of effort and that's the commitment we are going to demand from each of you.  We also know that we can't make everyone happy all the time, so we are going to shoot for doing the best we can.  It's what we expect of our players, so it's what we can aim for too.

We are here to help our players get better - both on and off the court. It's what we do!

Sports Engine App

The Sports Engine mobile app should be downloaded, if it's not already on both parent and player phones. The Getting Started Guide contains very helpful information on the Sports Engine app, including:

  • installing the Sports Engine app
  • Logging into the app
  • Following your team (or teams)
  • Updating notification settings
  • Subscribing to the team calendar (if you use a calendar on your smartphone, the team calendar can be synced to your smartphone calendar)

This app will be very important during the season to keep informed of schedules, games, news, player and coach rosters, and much more!  As the season is just beginning, you may have new faces on the team.  The app contains a roster of both players and coaches, including photos.  As the season progresses, results and stats will be added for matches played.
