The first weekend of Fall League is upon us!
We only had a few practices before jumping into this first weekend and I'm sure both players and coaches are nervous and excited about jumping right into competition, but that's just kind of what Fall League is all about. Our focus in The Fall is on skill development more than team concepts and competition. Not all clubs do it the same way, with many carrying forward teams from season to season, so everyone is in a different place. For us, these competitions are opportunities to teach the game at a level appropriate to our athletes and I hope we will have the opportunity to face comparable teams in competition. The first week, we are likely to see teams from across the spectrum, as league officials haven't yet had the opportunity to see everyone play and adjust schedules accordingly. Expect competition to be closer as the season progresses.
I encourage all players, parents, coaches and spectators to be patient and kind to site hosts as they work through all the health and safety procedures that come with our current public health challenges, as well as all the regular logistical challenges that come with coordinating events at this level. Everyone is working hard to give kids and parents the opportunity to get back in the gym after all of last year's craziness, so let's just try to enjoy it.
Northern Impact Volleyball Club has changed over the past 10 years. We have changed names (formerly Moundsview Volleyball Club,) we have changed directors, we have changed our value and mission, and we have grown - A LOT!
There's a reason we have more teams, have expanded our age reach and geographic boundaries, and win more. It's because we have worked hard and listened to feedback. We went all in on getting better, took risks and accepted that it wouldn't always be pretty. Just like our players learn through our Train Ugly lessons on growth mindset.
That's how you get better at volleyball, better at running a volleyball club, or learn to do anything. If you haven't already done so, please take a look at our Mission and Vision and let us know what you think. It's written in HTML, not stone, so we can make it better, if we want.
We want all of our players and families to commit to making this club the best it can be. We won't accept mediocrity or lack of effort and that's the commitment we are going to demand from each of you. We also know that we can't make everyone happy all the time, so we are going to shoot for doing the best we can. It's what we expect of our players, so it's what we can aim for too.
We are here to help our players get better - both on and off the court. It's what we do!
The Sports Engine mobile app should be downloaded, if it's not already on both parent and player phones. The Getting Started Guide contains very helpful information on the Sports Engine app, including:
This app will be very important during the season to keep informed of schedules, games, news, player and coach rosters, and much more! As the season is just beginning, you may have new faces on the team. The app contains a roster of both players and coaches, including photos. As the season progresses, results and stats will be added for matches played.
